The Power of One

“Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance… Luke 15:7.”

The gospels record many accounts of Jesus preaching and teaching to thousands of people during His ministry on earth. In fact, the word “multitude” occurs 40 times in Matthew’s gospel. But His most powerful experiences came when He was ministering to the individual. Consider the following examples:

The leprous man Luke 5:12-14
The woman with the issue of blood and Jairus’ daughter Luke 8:40-56
The thief on the cross and the centurion at the cross

The early church also reached large crowds, but also touched individuals:

The Crippled Man Acts 3
The Ethiopian Eunuch Acts 8
The Philippian Jailer, Lydia and the Young girl Acts 16

In Luke 15, Jesus teaches us that the lost have value in the kingdom of God. Heaven’s greatest celebration is not over the multitudes who know Christ, but over the one who comes to Him in faith.

Do you know of someone who needs to respond to Christ’ gift of salvation?

Consider this: You would not have come to Christ, if someone hadn’t prayed for you and shared the gospel; Not only can you pray for the one, you can share the gospel with the one.

Let’s pray and then share the gospel and then let the precious Holy Spirit do his work of grace.

How can we reach the world? One sinner at a time.

Think of how many souls we could reach if each one of us would take the time to share the Good News with one who is lost.

Which One will you pray for? Which One will you share the gospel with?
