JOSHUA 4

JOSHUA 4

5 And Joshua said to them, “Pass on before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take up each of you a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the people of Israel, 6 that this may be a sign among you. When your children ask in time to come, ‘What do those stones mean to you?’ 7 then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever.”

WHAT DO THESE STONES MEAN TO YOU?

We all have days we want to remember, special days in our lives.

One of my special days is on the 30th June, that was the day I first landed in China, another special day is the 28th October, our wedding day.

To remember those days, we may take pictures or create a keepsake of the moment.

Here the children of Israel placed twelve stones in the Jordan River, one for each tribe.

The Lord wanted these stones to be placed for a memorial so that future generations would see what the Lord did to bring the children of Israel into the promised land.

There were two miracle crossings: one to get the children of Israel out of Egypt and another to get the children of Israel into the promised land.

What do these stones mean to you? to me, they mean the following things:

They mean that we serve a mighty God.  Consider what God did to the waters of the Jordan and the Red Sea

They mean that we serve a God who keeps His promises, and that what he says he will do

They mean that God is gracious and merciful, not only to Israel, but to you and me

They mean that God’s love never fails. He never gives up on His people

They mean that we serve a faithful God, who never leaves us or forsakes us

They mean that God has been with me throughout my journey, and He will be with me until I take my last breath

These stones are a reminder to me, that God is the one who has led me, guided me, helped me and provided for me and is the very reason I live and have my being

What do these stones mean to you?

God bless you
