Hebrews 6

HEBREWS 6

10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

REMEMBER…THE LORD DOESN’T FORGET:

So many of us serve the Lord joyfully and don’t get any praise or credit for it.  I know that at times, I have complained long and hard to the Lord, in this fashion, ”Lord look at what I did for you today, I did this and that and no one has even thanked me!”

Have you, like me , said anything like that?  This verse is the antidote to that feeling. God sees all our service, whether men see it or not, God sees it and will reward you for it.

The Lord is righteous and he looks down on the work we do, and we will receive a reward.  Indeed, the only reward you should seek is the proclamation, ‘well done, thy good and faithful servant’.

When we serve our brothers and sisters, we serve God himself, God has given us his love and we show it to the brethren, because we have God’s love in our hearts. Freely we have received, and so we should freely give…Amen.

It is our great privilege to serve God and to also serve our brethren. Serving our brethren comes out of our love for God and loving God means we serve our brethren; we follow the example of our Savior in John 13.

In Luke 17, Jesus says these words,

10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

We only do what we are told to after all. Rewards will be given to us for our service, when we get to heaven.  God will not forget our service or labour of love to our brethren, not because of what we do, but because we are actually serving HIM.

Let me give the final words to Matthew Henry:

God is not unrighteous to forget your labour of love, v. 10. Good works and labour proceeding from love to God are commendable; and what is done to any in the name of God shall not go unrewarded. What is done to the saints, as such, God takes as done to himself.

God bless you

Keith
