YORKSHIRE

Yorkshire is often called God’s own county, it is my home county and the largest shire county in England.

It has four distinct areas:

North Yorkshire is the rural area, it consists of two National parks, the Yorkshire dales (valleys) and the North Yorkshire moors.

The towns here are small such as Skipton, Settle and Knaresborough, picturesque market towns that are based on farming and tourism. The largest city in this area is York and another large town is Harrogate.

This area is a stronghold of Methodism/Church of England, every village has a church, but many are dead or dying. Please pray that every village and town would have strong evangelical churches. Many independent chapels were founded in the 18-19th century, but many have closed.

Please pray for Revival.

East Yorkshire

This includes the City of Hull, which was the birthplace of Hudson Taylor and William Wilberforce, it is not that Cities in Yorkshire, don’t have evangelical churches, but they need a move of God.

The coastline of Yorkshire is very beautiful, towns such as Bridlington, Scarborough and beautiful towns such as Robin Hood’s Bay (want to live here), Whitby and Flamborough need a deep touch of the spirit in the churches.

West Yorkshire

This is the area I come from I was born in Bradford, famous people from here include Titus Salt and the Bronte sisters ( I have been to their home in Haworth many times).

Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield and Halifax are the major cities in this area gained their wealth from the wool trade, but all of the mills are now closed and it has become a service economy. Now many immigrants are taking over these cities and white people are being threatened by this.

Many of the growing churches are coming from the immigrant communities including African, Chinese and Caribbean peoples.

Sharia law is becoming increasingly dominant in certain areas, some areas of my home city are no go areas for white people. But again opportunity awaits, as the Muslim community needs to be reached, please pray that more English Christians would reach out to the Muslim community. Some of the largest mosques in the UK are in West Yorkshire.

South Yorkshire

Situated around the city of Sheffield, which was a steel city, this part of the county continues to need God’s spirit to continue to work within the church.

Please continue to pray for my home county, it has given the world many great Christians such as Wilberforce, Hudson Taylor, William Grimshaw and others, now it needs God’s spirit to move again.
