Thirsting for God
O God, you are my God; with deepest longing, I will seek You; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh longs and sighs for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water. So, I have gazed upon You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory…Psalm 63:1-2.”
What a way to start this psalm? I hope we can all echo this first statement—what an incredible thing to be able to say. Many people say O God, but there is a second part to the statement that isn’t there. “YOU ARE MY GOD.” A Christian is the only person who can genuinely make this remarkable statement; I pray and hope you can say the same YOU ARE MY GOD!
When you can say the above words, you want God in all His fullness because this is the true Christian’s longing. Nothing but God can satisfy the true Christian; to the true Christian, the world has lost every bit of its glamour. You see, there is no water in the land that can truly satisfy the child of God; he/she yearns for the real water only God can give.
What is your deep longing? Are you still longing for the things of the world, or are you longing after God himself? When we come to church, do we come to seek God and Him alone? We talk to our friends, sing a few hymns, listen to a sermon, and then go. Do we gaze into the eyes of our Savior?
When was the last time you went to God’s house and saw his power and glory? Indeed, do you long to see it? Are you craving for the water of life, like David was?
God bless you. Keith
