True Confidence

“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us… 1John 5:13-14.”

Many people either lack confidence or have too much confidence in themselves. But the best kind of confidence and assurance is to believe and trust in Christ.

Everything John has written, not just in his letter, but in his gospel, is to lead people, not just to believe, but to know without a shadow of a doubt that they are saved.

Why is this assurance so important in many believers’ lives?

Like many, I must admit in my Christian walk, I have doubted my faith. Undermining our assurance is a prime target of the devil. He will say “look at that sin you did”; surely you can’t be saved.”

Yet these verses speak truth when confronted by the Father of Lies. Death stalks us all; it is the thing we must all face. But thank God, we have this assurance, that we have eternal life and we will spend eternity with Christ.

When we are assured of eternal life and have fellowship with the Father, it gives us great confidence to face life’s challenges.

Isn’t that simply amazing?
